STICKER AND LABEL INFORMATION |

|
Uses for Labels and other Information There are many uses for stickers and labels. Sealing envelopes and address labels for envelopes. Music Bands often search for and purchase custom stickers with their Band Name and sometimes adding their web address below. The group then uses these stickers as hand-outs at their concert to get the word out. The majority of band stickers are printed on a vinyl type material and then are laminated on top of the printed image. Candle makers use stickers for the bottom of their candle tins. Gift companies apply stickers to their products. Most gift labels are printed on Gloss or Matte stock and require no lamination as they will mainly be seen indoors. Blank poker chips can be personalized with stickers that stick in the center. Stickers can create high visibility for your small business. Static Cling labels that have no adhesive are used for store windows and the like and they stick and stay to the glass. The military orders stickers with their insignia, crest or symbol that is characteristic of the individual squadron. These are sometimes many colors and are cut to the shape of the image. Water treatment plants use Danger Labels to mark their equipment and machinery. Stickers can be printed for hard-hats, which require special outdoor inks and stock. Some companies require stickers to cover up printing. There is material that has a gray (block-out) adhesive for no-see-thru printing. As you can see, there are many uses for stickers and labels. This is just a small sampling.
Artwork design
Artwork design is another
area that is specialized when it comes to the actual printing of
stickers. There are different sticker printing presses which require
different artwork formats. Some press require artwork to be laid out
in what is known as vector format. Most drawing programs such as
Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator use vector graphics. They are not
pixel based. The shapes and images are created mathematically and
most important about vector graphics is that they are editable
whereas Raster Images (jpgs, gif, png) are not. For example, text
always remains editable and you can change the font, colors, or any
other characteristic at any time. When you zoom in on a vector
graphic, you can see clean sharp edges and there are no pixels as in
a draw program. These are the type of artwork files that most
sticker and label companies require. However, for digital printers
that can print Full Color stickers, the raster images (jpgs, gif,
png) work very well. How labels are processed
The raw stock can vary in
length and width and has 3 parts to it. - the liner, the adhesive,
and the face stock. The face stock is what is printed on and
consists of all different type of surfaces: Matte, Gloss, Foils,
vinyl and more. The second segment is the adhesive base. There are
different types of adhesive: removable, permanent or repositionable.
There are also specialized coated adhesives that carry words or
logos in them for Void stickers applications. The third part is the
liner. The liner acts as a carrier for the label. The liner, which
is the third part, has different thickness and sometimes different
colors. More factors to sticker and label printing are Lamination,
UV coatings or varnish. Lamination is a clear material that is
affixed on top of the final sticker for protection from scuffing and
outdoor weather conditions. More . . .
